Mayor Mensinger of Costa Mesa will present a proclamation to Mr. Kostabi and recognize his career accomplishments in the art market. The 360-degree experience with art advisors and art lovers is sponsored by Angelina’s Pizzeria Napoletana and Inspired Art and Wine. This will be Mark Kostabi’s one and only California appearance.
Mark Kostabi studied drawing and painting at California State University in Fullerton. In 1982, he moved to New York and quickly established a reputation as a leader in the revival of figurative painting. His featureless “everyman” figure quickly became a cultural icon of the era. In 1988, he founded Kostabi World, a net-renaissance studio and gallery that employs 30 full-time assistants. Beginning in the early 1990s Kostabi’s work has been widely exhibited throughout Italy. Kostabi established a second home in Rome in 1996. Dividing his time between Rome and New York enabled him to dramatically enhance his presence in the Italian art scene. Kostabi has been featured in more than 500 exhibitions world-wide and his works are in the permanent collections of several museums including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and many others.
The event is open to the public including to prominent art collectors, local business leaders, restaurant and gallery executives. The City of Costa Mesa is just one mile from the Pacific Coast.
