Martin Lawrence Galleries, South Coast Plaza is hosting a winter season holiday art reception on Saturday, December 10 (6 to 9 pm) that celebrates the Father of Art Deco. As the halls of the mall are decked with joy, the gallery will welcome those from all walks of life. Visitors will learn of the great Erté retrospective at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersberg, Russia.
The legendary career of Erté spanned nearly the entire length of his life. At the age of 20, Erté moved to Paris where is unique talent was immediately recognized by the city’s most established couturiers. In 1915 he began an association with Harper’s Bazaar, designing covers for the next 22 years. His work influenced an entire art movement that was to become known as “Art Deco.” At the age of 75, Erté embarked on a new career, recreating the remarkable designs of his youth in bronze and serigraphy. The Art Deco movement was hence reborn.
This exhibition is open to the public, prominent art collectors, business leaders and professionals. The event is sponsored by The Yard House Costa Mesa and Jackrabbit Photo.
