Martin Lawrence Galleries, Costa Mesa is launching the Spanish Masters exhibition on Saturday, November 11 (6 to 8pm) with Surrealistic and Cubist artworks of the 20th century by Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso. The exclusive unveiling includes hand-signed lithographs and etchings.
Born in Figueres, Spain, Dalí was one of the greatest Surrealists, using bizarre dream imagery to create unforgettable landscapes of his inner world. A major retrospective of his work opened in 1941 at the Museum of Modern Art and traveled throughout the USA.
Born in Barcelona, Spain, Miró’s work has been interpreted as Surrealism, and the realm of the memory and imaginative fantasy were to take priority. In 1979, he was named Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Barcelona.
Born in Malaga, Spain, Picasso had an artistic career that lasted more than 75 years with paintings, sculptures, prints and ceramics. He created thousands of works and almost single-handedly created modern art in the 20th century.
