About the Work

Salvador Dalí is commonly regarded as one of the greatest Surrealist artists, whose personality was often displayed on his magnificent works of art. He practiced sculpting, advertising, printmaking, fashion, filmmaking and more. Dalí’s mischievousness and peculiar personality contributed to his rise to become an international celebrity, but he is better known for his most distinct attribute: his mastery of art. Dalí’s significance and talent rank him among the most versatile and prolific artists of the 20th century.

Our Historical Heritage is a portfolio that shows Dalí’s influence from religious themes. The portfolio, Our Historical Heritage, depicts events and historical figures from the Hebrew scriptures (The Torah or Old Testament), curated with the signature style only found in Dalí’s work. This series also includes Noah’s Ark, Joseph, King Saul, and more. Each image showcases Dali’s master draftsmanship. Jeremiah is also known as the “weeping poet,” who plays a foundational role in Christianity. Jeremiah preached throughout Israel, and his ministry conspired to murder him. However, God informed Jeremiah of these conspiracies and saved him. Jeremiah has been the subject of many artistic works by famous artists, including Rembrandt van Rijn.

“Jeremiah” by Salvador Dalí is a magnificent work of art, which highlights Dalí’s skill and religious influence. In this piece, we can see an elder Jeremiah. He has long, bushy grey hair covering his head and a fluffy beard to match. His eyes are a bright blue color, and he has fair skin. Jeremiah is wearing a bright pink robe with gold trim around the collar. It is unclear as to what Jeremiah is looking at. However, he seems worried about the subject. At times, the lines in this image seem unorthodox, but the precision and fluidity of these lines are what give texture and detail to Jeremiah. “Jeremiah” is a 22 x 15.5-inch hand-signed engraving created in 1975 from the Our Historical Heritage series.
