Saul did not like David and made many failed attempts to take David’s life. Saul offered David his daughters twice, yet David refused both offers. King Saul led many military campaigns during his reign and contested many victories in battle. To avoid being captured in battle, Saul fell on his sword, ultimately ending his life. King Saul has been the inspiration for many different works in art and literature throughout history.

He has dark brown eyes and dark lips; his skin is a fair color. Saul’s beard and eyebrows are long, thick and grey. His crown is bright gold, yet it is not adorned with any gems or crystals. Saul gazes creepily back at the viewer, and his eyes are deep and hypnotic. Dalí uses many deep line strokes to emphasize where he wants the viewer to look, primarily directly in the eyes of King Saul. “King Saul” is a 22 x 15.5-inch hand-signed engraving created in 1975 from the Our Historical Heritage series.
