Picasso made a few prints for the book (Geiser 136 – 141; and two others were chosen to illustrate Le Chef-d’œuvre inconnu, No. 20 – see Geiser 125 and 132). Henry de Montherlant wrote a preface and then the wars in Spain and elsewhere put an end to the project. In 1956 Gustavo Gili, Junior, reminded Picasso of the book.
