About the Work

“Santos Raven of The Moon and The Divine Triangle” offer a taste of popular witchcraft with a pro-fem, religious or occult-like iconography. Nicholls’ signature style is enhanced by the meticulous hand aging that each piece has undergone. With rough-hewn edges and gold leaf accents, the artist has created works with an inherently antique quality. Inspired by folk art movements of the early 19th century as well as appearing somewhat ‘Egyptian’ in influence with their weathered craftsmanship. A monochromatic palette is punctuated by gold accents that shine and change as the viewer moves. The protagonists, clad in black and adorned with the heads of Ravens, offer exalted poses to the phases of the moon, signaling a more in-depth questioning and cosmic connection to the sacred feminine. “Santos Raven of the Moon and The Divine Triangle (Right)” is a 49 x 24 – inch acrylic paint and gold leaf on hand-distressed gold-edge wood panel.

About the Artist

Anne Faith Nicholls is a truly unique addition to the contemporary art scene—she provides a refreshing look at the soul of the modern woman and artist. Born with a backwards heart, Nicholls has an inner strength that is inspirational and captivating. Her sense of adventure and exploration began in Victoria, British Columbia. Restless to travel to new places, she made her journey south to San Francisco, graduating from the Academy of Art University, and then on to Los Angeles where she resides today. She has traveled the world with a focus on studying the masters. This commitment to traditional painting has contributed to the development of her own unique style of utilizing both oil and acrylic to achieve a signature layered look and a saturated, antiqued, color palette.
