About the Work

“The Toad” is an etching and drypoint with gilding, created by Savlador Dali in 1970. “The Toad” is part of “Les Amours Jaunes” suite. The image size is 11.5 x 8.5 – inches. Frame Size is 26.25 x 21.25 – inches.
The only poems published of Tristan Corbière – Les Amours Jaunes – are the subject of this erotic group of prints by Salvador Dalí. Of the 24 poems in Corbière’s work, Dalí chooses 10 to elaborate on in his iconic and amusing way. Micheler-Lopsinger notes that the original plan was to illustrate a more erotic text, but this was rejected in favor of the present one.
The etchings were reworked and amplified in drypoint by Dalí and all impressions were gilded by Atelier Jacomet. The title to Dalí’s print corresponds with the title of Corbière’s poem.

About the Artist

Spanish Artist Salvador Dalí was a Surrealist icon best known for his articulate skill and exquisite works of art. Dalí is among the most versatile and prolific artists of the 20th century, partially due to his explorations of subconscious imagery. He practiced sculpting, printmaking, fashion, advertising, filmmaking and more. His flamboyant personality and mischievousness contributed to his rise to becoming an international celebrity, however, his mastery of art is arguably his most distinct attribute.
