About the Work

Minimal, enveloping and dimensional, allow your eyes to drift into the grey oblivion of Anne Faith Nicholls’ Signature Wave Paintings. Waves, a common motif featured in the artist’s most popular narrative works, are used by the artist as a backdrop, symbolically depicting contemplation and movement. Here the waves are presented boldly on their own, contrasting light and shadow to feature depth and dimension, and painted in the artist’s signature style, which is actually a classical learned technique made common in 17th-century Baroque theater set design. These canvases and works on paper are pleasingly gestural and perplexingly three-dimensional from any angle view, and each is unique, painted and initialed in the artist’s own hand. “Untitled (Waves 1)” is a 48 x 48 – inch acrylic on canvas.

About the Artist

Anne Faith Nicholls is a truly unique addition to the contemporary art scene—she provides a refreshing look at the soul of the modern woman and artist. Born with a backwards heart, Nicholls has an inner strength that is inspirational and captivating. Her sense of adventure and exploration began in Victoria, British Columbia. Restless to travel to new places, she made her journey south to San Francisco, graduating from the Academy of Art University, and then on to Los Angeles where she resides today. She has traveled the world with a focus on studying the masters. This commitment to traditional painting has contributed to the development of her own unique style of utilizing both oil and acrylic to achieve a signature layered look and a saturated, antiqued, color palette.
