About the Work
Salvador Dalí is commonly regarded as one of the greatest Surrealist artists, whose personality was often displayed on his magnificent works of art. He practiced sculpting, advertising, printmaking, fashion, filmmaking and more. Dalí’s mischievousness and peculiar personality contributed to his rise to become an international celebrity, but he is better known for his most distinct attribute: his mastery of art. Dalí’s significance and talent rank him among the most versatile and prolific artists of the 20th century.
Our Historical Heritage is a portfolio that shows Dalí’s influence from religious themes. The portfolio, Our Historical Heritage, depicts events and historical figures from the Hebrew scriptures (The Torah or Old Testament), curated with the signature style only found in Dalí’s work. This series also includes Jeremiah, Noah’s Ark, The Rock, and more. Each image showcases Dali’s impeccable draftsmanship. Before he became the second king of Israel and Judah, David was a young shepherd and musician. He is the subject of the infamous tale “David vs. Goliath”, where a young David defeats the mighty Goliath in combat. David was anointed King after Saul was killed in battle. David accumulated many accomplishments as King and eventually chose his son Solomon to be his successor before he died. As a religious figure, the story of David has inspired many works in art and literature.
“King David” by Salvador Dalí is a magnificent work of art, which highlights Dalí’s skill and religious influence. The image portrays King David as an elder playing a large, beautiful harp. King David has bright blue eyes and long, curly grey hair. He is wearing royal red robes that match the marvelous red crystal on his golden crown. This crystal is beaming light off it to amplify its stunning elegance. One can imagine the song he is performing as a beautiful tune, considering David’s past as a musician. “King David” is a 22.75 x 15.5-inch hand-signed engraving created in 1975 from the Our Historical Heritage series.
