Robert Standish is an American painter living and working in Los Angeles whose distinctive organic abstract paintings reveal wondrous and uplifting emotive effects in bright color, with bold gestures, and deep textures. A renowned former photorealist painter, Standish became inspired by the spontaneity of Abstract Expressionism, the transcendence of Abstract Spiritualism, and the nuances and power of pure color in Color Field painting – he has focused solely on abstraction since.
“Fourteen years ago, a feeling overwhelmed me to paint differently, away from the ego driven and unspontaneous style of my photorealism paintings, leading me to embrace abstraction,” noted Standish. “My abstract paintings are motivated by and focused on energetically uplifting, spontaneous and transcendent compositions, featuring random rhythmic color bursts, abundant paint, and most importantly, a request for Divine guidance.”
