About the Work
"Heaven Canto 5" is a wood engraving from Salvador Dalí’s illustrated series for 'The Divine Comedy', printed on BFK Rives paper with an image size of 10 x 7 inches.
In the 1950s, Dalí created 100 watercolors to depict each of Dante’s cantos—34 for 'Hell', 33 for 'Purgatory', and 33 for 'Heaven'. Master engravers then meticulously translated these paintings into wood engravings for print.
Two principal editions were published: the French 'Les Heures Claires' (1960–1964) and the Italian edition by Arte e Scienze Salani (1964), alongside a limited number of deluxe portfolios. Altogether, the combined edition size totals 8,534 prints (Field).
The work is presented in a classic gold-toned frame and includes a certificate of authenticity.
About the Artist
Spanish Artist Salvador Dalí was a Surrealist icon best known for his articulate skill and exquisite works of art. Dalí is among the most versatile and prolific artists of the 20th century, partially due to his explorations of subconscious imagery. He practiced sculpting, printmaking, fashion, advertising, filmmaking and more. His flamboyant personality and mischievousness contributed to his rise to becoming an international celebrity, however, his mastery of art is arguably his most distinct attribute.
