About the Work
"Flower Parent and Child" is an offset lithograph with cold stamp created by Takashi Murakami in 2021. From the edition of 300, the artwork is signed and annotated lower right. The image size is 30 x 24.12". The artwork ships framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Takashi Murakami’s "Flower Parent and Child" graphics grew out of one of his most visible public projects of the pandemic era: the monumental gold sculpture installed at Roppongi Hills, Tokyo, in 2020–21. Created when cities were still shaped by COVID-19 restrictions and uncertainty, the work transformed Murakami’s famous smiling flower into a tender parent-and-child figure, offering an image of protection, continuity and hope.
At around ten metres high, the original sculpture stood in the open plaza at Roppongi Hills, where its gleaming gold surface made it appear both celebratory and reassuring. The surrounding project extended Murakami’s visual world into the everyday life of the district, connecting public art, popular culture and shared urban experience at a moment when collective optimism felt especially necessary.
These prints translate that public monument into an intimate, collectible format. Their bright color, metallic effects and playful graphic energy preserve the joyful spirit of the sculpture while emphasizing its emotional subject: a parent sheltering and accompanying a child. In this series, Murakami’s flower is not only an icon of pop abundance, but also a symbol of resilience, care and renewal.
