About the Work

"Cinqueterre" is a serigraph on paper created by Kerry Hallam in 2001. From the edition of 250 on white paper, the edition also included 250 on canvas for a total edition size of 500. The artwork is signed 'Kerry Hallam' lower right and annotated lower left. The image size is 32 x 27" and the artwork is framed in an ornate, gold-tone frame. The artwork ships framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Kerry Hallam masterfully paints magical combinations of earth, sky, and sea, very often in a Mediterranean setting. Here, a long stretch of the northwest coast of Italy, just at the top of the "boot," the Cinqueterre (Five Lands) beckons those travelers determined enough to get there. Suspended in time, pure and uncluttered by the commercial icons of contemporary life, the five towns of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso rise precipitously from the steep coastline, perched between the craggy mountains above and the crashing sea below.

Hallam's brush strokes and palette capture the very essence of this place, where dwellings cling to the rocky slope and every bit of living space is held back from falling into the sea by retaining walls that are hundreds, if not thousands, of years old.

People are drawn to the Cinqueterre not for grand hotels and nightlife, but for its rugged, natural beauty. The contrast of smooth and rough, land and sea, and the grounding effect of the vibrant, earthy colors combine to make an unforgettable portrait of a place known for its natural and timeless beauty.

About the Artist

Kerry Hallam (1937–2020) was a British-born, classically trained artist celebrated for his vibrant, joy-filled seascapes and landscapes. Influenced by the Fauves and Post-Impressionists, Hallam infused his art with bold color, expressive brushwork, and radiant light.
Inspired equally by the French Riviera and the coastlines of Nantucket and New England, Hallam transformed everyday scenes into timeless celebrations of leisure and escape. His art captures the glamour of travel and the tranquility of the sea, inviting viewers to delight in life’s simple pleasures.
Exhibited worldwide, from Paris and London to New York and Tokyo, Hallam’s work is held in prestigious private and public collections, including those of Brigitte Bardot and the Virginia Heart Institute. For today’s collectors, his paintings remain a testament to wanderlust, vitality, and the enduring power of color.
