About the Work

The artwork is signed 'Kerry Hallam' lower right and annotated lower left. The image size is 39 x 36" and the artwork is framed in a classic, gold-tone frame. The artwork ships framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Kerry Hallam spent the early part of his life living along the Riviera and returned there repeatedly to recreate the panoramic vistas that refreshed his artistic spirit. He explains,
"The most intensely awakening experience of my life was the contrast between the bleakness of my childhood in our northern England mining town and the overwhelming beauty and richness of the Mediterranean coast and of southern France. There I could paint outside. I could breathe, seemingly for the first time. Here, the colors of the landscape -viridians, cadmiums, ceruleans -are full strength, pure and brilliant with vibrant intensity. "
Kerry Hallam's passion for the Riviera is portrayed with extraordinary beauty in "Sur la Côte." The palms bend gently in the soft breeze that sweeps the café verandah. The scarlet blossoms cascade across the terrace wall. Guests bask in the sun's rays while pleasure boats sail in and out of the harbor. It is evident that Hallam's artistic spirit thrives in the grandeur of the French Riviera.
"Sur la Côte," which translates to "along the coast", takes us where Hallam has been and where we long to be. The crystal colors of the Mediterranean soothe and rejuvenate. Like the Fauvist painters, Hallam's art consists of broad strokes of intense color that create an energy that is intrinsic to its location.
