About the Work
"Kiku Exhibition Catalog" is a screenprint created by Andy Warhol between 1983-1984. The artwork is from the edition of 1500. The artwork ships framed in a contemporary gold-tone frame and has a framed size of 19.5 x 22". The artwork ships framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

In 1974, a Warhol painting retrospective took place at the Daimaru Department Store in Tokyo. This exhibition began a strong relationship between Warhol and what were to become very serious Japanese collectors.  Members of the Gendai Ganga Center in Tokyo approached Warhol in 1982 with a request that he create prints specifically for their Center. They especially liked the artist’s silkscreen suite, "Flowers (Hand-Colored), 1974," which had been based on Japanese ikebana - the art of flower arranging.  Taking this into account, Warhol created imagery for the Gendai Hanga Center based on the chrysanthemum - the insignia of the Royal House of Japan. He called this body of work, "Kiku," which is the Japanese word for chrysanthemum.

Having adopted a casual approach to screen-printing, Warhol often combined conscious intent with accidental results. These mishaps exploited the mechanical nature of his silkscreen. By printing with uneven inking, often off-registration, Warhol achieved a painterly effect with his prints. His "Kiku" silkscreens show this creative process, including exploration of different papers as well as various color and compositional variations.

The Gendai Hanga Center exhibited the works they commissioned from Warhol in a 1983-1984 Japanese exhibition. This exhibition marked the formal release of his "Kiku Flowers" suite, a set of prints that would become remarkably successful and highly collected.  A 184-page catalogue was created for the exhibition (see image of the catalogue below).  The mostly black and white book, featuring text about the artist written in Japanese, also contains color plates featuring some of Warhol’s best-known works.  Bound into the book is an exquisite original screenprint of a Warhol Kiku flower.

This screenprint, authorized by Warhol to be bound into this publication, was based on one of the 6 original prints that he created for the exhibition. The print, created and bound into the show catalogue to enhance the value of not just the catalogue, but also the exhibition, is authenticated by the Warhol Authentication Board.
About the Artist

Andy Warhol (1928–1987) was the leading figure of Pop Art and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Beginning his career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol transformed everyday imagery—celebrities, consumer goods, and advertising—into icons of modern art. His embrace of silkscreen printing elevated the medium, making his graphic portfolios central to his practice and legacy.
From the bold Mick Jagger portraits to cultural reflections like Ads, Myths, and Cowboys and Indians, Warhol’s prints capture the energy of postwar America with striking color and immediacy. Today, his works are held in every major museum collection and remain highly sought-after by collectors worldwide. Warhol’s prints continue to embody the glamour, wit, and cultural sharpness that defined his vision, and they still resonate powerfully today.
